USING NEW MEDIA TO HEAL AGE OLD TRAUMA
Darryl Gene Daughtry Jr, a Pittsburgh Native, is part of the multi-hyphenated creative producing class and is located spiritually and literally in Harlem. Currently, Darryl (also known as ‘DJ’) is a graduate of the Juilliard Drama school MFA program and was in the Broadway cast of the 4 time Tony award-winning play “The Inheritance”.
The lens for Darryl has widened from primarily performance to creator: writing, directing, and producing new, diaspora-healing, works.
“Bound” centers around Theus, a man bound to his bed and depression. The piece is framed by the hero’s journey, and Theus must find his way through or stay Bound. Softly based on Aeschylus’ Prometheus Bound.
“There Are Voices In Our Skin”, a magic-realist short film about a young black couple who discover when they touch that they can hear their past lives.
“Black Love”, a wild anthology television series about love between black folk.
“Non-Linear Sonic Journeys”, a web series following hip-hop and alternative composers. Peeking into their lives and communities.
“How I Saved The World; or I tried to save the world”, a documentary on green energy and sustainable business models.
